Our 2008 trip to India showed us 208 species of bird, 26 mammals (including 13 separate Tigers), 8 herptiles and 15 butterflies. Here's an incomplete list of what we saw.
At the Dev Vilas lodge we saw a Collared Scops Owl and flock of Painted Sandgrouse.
Our first safari drive was in Ranthambore, where we had wonderful views of Hanuman Langurs, Sambar Deer, Chital [Spotted Deer], Wild Boar and Four-horned Antelope. At Jaipur, the "Pink City" we saw Indian Rollers, White-throated Kingfishers, Little Green Bee-eaters and Nilgai.
Next we went to Keoladeo Ghana National Park a-buzz with Painted Storks, White-breasted Waterhens, Open-billed storks, Comb Ducks, cormorants and egrets. Bandhavgarh National Park is a sal and bamboo forest with its attendant tigers where we got excellent views. The taller trees were holders of Vanda bicolor orchids. Here we rode an elephant to see a Tiger up close and caught sight of a leopard. At Kanha National Park we added Red Jungle Fowl, Racket-tailed Drongo and Barasingha.
