We invite you aboard our exclusively chartered 18-passenger Amazon expedition vessel, the M/V Tucano, to experience the great natural beauty and majesty of the Amazon.
As we cruise the river we will see towering trees with buttresses like rocket ships, philodendron leaves the size of raincoats, colourful birds that screech across the evening skies, pink and gray river dolphins, monkeys swinging through the treetops by their tails, and orchids and bromeliads clinging to the limbs of overhanging trees.
Our expedition cruise begins in Manaus, the legendary city of the Amazon, where we will board the M/V Tucano and sail upstream on the tea-coloured waters of the sixth largest river in the world, the Rio Negro. We plan to explore the rainforests bordering the Rio Negro as we sail north to Rio Jauaperi, an extraordinary river that traverses a rarely visited forest area rich in wildlife. In addition to our rainforest discoveries, we will visit the settlers of the rivers we are exploring. Many of the settlers are of native ancestry and the breadth of their knowledge of the rainforest is enormous.
Our daily cruise program is well-organized and nicely paced so that we can explore as much of the Amazon as possible. Several times daily, we will walk in the forest or use our launches to investigate small streams and lagoons that radiate off the main river. On some nights, we'll foray out by launch to observe nocturnal animals and listen to the incomparable sounds of the night.
The M/V Tucano is perfect for our river expedition, as it is spacious throughout and boasts many attributes: an enormous, air-conditioned salon, a large, open observation deck with a sun canopy, a forward-facing balcony, comfortable air-conditioned cabins with private bathrooms and elegant hardwood paneling and decks. This more
is a classic expedition voyage on which our exclusive group will be able to blend superb wildlife viewing, both on land and on water, with the comforts of an Amazon expedition vessel that is designed to access narrow passages, flooded forests and lagoons.

Pete has been a dedicated educator and expert interpretative naturalist for many years. He has travelled extensively in North America, the Caribbean, and Australia. He served as ship's naturalist on board the R/V Akademic Ioffe in Antarctica. He is fond of disseminating his vast natural history knowledge to others, and has led previous Quest tours to Cuba and Georgian Bay. Tirelessly working for the environment, you might find him each Spring guiding bird hikes at Point Pelee National Park particularly to encourage new birders or find him taking part in many volunteer projects for his local naturalist group and other organizations.
Since retiring from the teaching profession, he has also been active as an environmental consultant doing field work throughout Ontario and been designing and working on building projects for preservation of an endangered species, the Loggerhead Shrike. Currently, he is thrilled to be leading Quest trips to Iceland and to Costa Rica.

Our participants say...
... a wonderful quest experience.
Dave was an excellent leader & the local guides fantastic - their knowledge and ability to share it made the trip outstanding.
The boat arrangements, food etc were all impeccable considering that we
were in the wilderness! The Tropicana hotel in Manaos is another fine
asset for the trip.
All in all a very pleasant trip, your arrangements as always were excellent.
