EAST AFRICA CLASSIC SAFARI
The Annual Serengeti Migration

Kenya and Tanzania are well known for their great concentrations of game animals, protected in an excellent system of national parks and game reserves, and guarantee you the supreme wildlife adventure of your life.

Our summer safari to East Africa has been planned to give you every opportunity to view and photograph the magnificent animals of this region and, in particular, front row seats to the world's greatest wildlife spectacle, the Serengeti migration. We join up with the migrating herds as they reach the northern Serengeti on the annual journey from their calving grounds to Kenya's Masai Mara. The sight of long lines of wildebeest and zebra moving across the grasslands never fails to inspire. From the safety of our vehicles, we'll also have close encounters with some of the predators of the game parks, including lion, cheetah, hyena and leopard. And we'll always be on the lookout for the exotic bird life that provides this region with the best birding on the African continent.

Each national park has its own specialties, unique flavour and breathtaking vistas: the snow-capped peak of Kilimanjaro; the acacia-dappled plains of Serengeti; giant Ngorongoro Crater; Olduvai Gorge, cradle of human evolution; rolling cloudscapes and rich sunrises and sunsets of the Masai Mara. Kenya and Tanzania have them all!
FACTS:
14-day trip
Maximum 16 participants
Start and finish in Nairobi, Kenya
ACTIVITY LEVEL:
Easy. We will be doing most of our game viewing from the comfort of our pop-top safari vehicles, as it is illegal to get out and walk in the National Parks. The elevations do change as we travel around East Africa with Nairobi having an elevation of about 2000 metres, the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater at approx 3400 metres, and the Serengeti at an elevation of slightly less than 2000 metres. This has not created any hardships for participants on previous tours. Note also that roads are often bumpy and dusty and you should be prepared for this.

TOUR LEADER: Geoff Carpentier
leaderGeoff's interest in nature started when he was 13 as he used to wander through the woods and countryside near his Canada home, learning about nature first hand. Educated at the University of Guelph in Canada, he studied zoology and biological sciences. Recently retired, he worked for over 33 years with the Canadian Ministry of the Environment. In his spare time, he maintained an active personal life where he taught nature and pesticides courses at community colleges and has led hundreds of nature walks and trips. He is a widely published author in nature magazines and books, wrote regular nature columns for local newspapers, and worked as an interpretive guide in several national parks. Geoff's latest triumph is the recent publication of his second book "Antarctica First Journey," a resource guide for Antarctic travellers.

Over the years, various tributes have recognized his contributions to the protection of wildlife and wild places. He has travelled the world, visiting over 60 countries on all seven continents, where he has shared time with polar bears, Amazonian snakes and piranhas, observed the private lives of lions, avoided riots in Venezuela, hiked the Andes, camped with Pademelons, walked with penguins and canoed Ontario's northern lakes. He is now embarking on his second career as an expedition guide and interpretative leader, where he will build on his lifelong passion for nature, and where he has already led numerous trips to Antarctica, South Georgia, the Falklands, Svalbard, Russia & Alaska, Cuba and Borneo.

Our participants say...
This was the most wonderful trip and an excellent introduction to East Africa. We would definitely recommend the experience to others. It was reassuring to know we were in safe and trusted hands throughout protected by yourselves and your partner Kimbla Mantana African Safaris.

There were so many highlights; the animals, ambiance and vistas, the optional balloon ride, the hotels, the bush experience, meeting and touring the Masai village etc. We were drawn especially to the warmth of the people of Tanzania and from a touring perspective the Ngorongoro Crater was the high point although the Tarangire, Serengeti and Masai Mara were also lovely. We thank you organizing such a wonderful and memorable trip.
