Brazil offers the traveller a tremendous variety of experiences, from the exotic city of Rio de Janeiro to the verdant rainforest of the Amazon and the endless plains of the Pantanal. In Chapada dos Guimares National Park huge greater rheas and bizarre red-legged seriemas frequent the open country. Verdant canyons, with their fingers of rich Amazonian forest, are home to jaguar, brown capuchin monkeys and peccaries and such birds as rusty-backed antwren, white-eared puffbird, helmeted manakin and curl-crested jay.
The beautiful garden of our Amazon rainforest lodge attracts many species of hummingbirds and its easy trails provide access to such rainforest mammals as black-tailed marmoset and an array of spectacularly coloured Amazonian birds.
The Pantanal is the world's largest freshwater wetland and home to the greatest concentration of wildlife on the continent. We'll look for marsh deer, capybara, giant river otter, ocelot and giant anteater as well as some of the star avian species of this area.
The habitats of Itatiaia National Park run the gamut from Atlantic coastal rainforest to the treeless summit of Agulhas Negras. A variety of trails through some of the most beautiful forest anywhere will allow us to sample and enjoy the flora and fauna of several different life zones. Join us on this exceptionally diverse South American nature tour. |

| ACTIVITY LEVEL: |
| • | Easy to Moderate: The trails that we use in our explorations of the parks and reserves are usually well-marked and easy to follow. Many do, however, follow the contours of the hills, valleys or cliffs and a few have steep inclines. The trails have to be traversed carefully but are accessible to anyone who has normal walking ability and stamina. Sturdy hiking shoes or boots are strongly advised. We recommend a trekking pole for extra stability. You should also be able to get in and out of boats. If you have any concerns about being able to participate on this trip, please contact our office for further information and advice. |
