The sun never sets on the remote Norwegian islands of the Svalbard Archipelago, high above the Arctic Circle. From the moment we throw lines and start our voyage, we are in the land of the polar bear, the beluga, the walrus and the reindeer. Here the tundra is carpeted with wildflowers and the ice-choked fjords echo with the thunderous roar of glacial ice crashing into the sea.
Our route takes us along the North and Northwest coasts of Spitsbergen. About midway between mainland Norway and the North Pole, this is as far north as it's possible to travel by sea without a dedicated icebreaker. We'll visit one of the northernmost communities in the world at Ny Ålesund, view the stunning birdcliffs of Hinlopenstretet and the awe inspiring walrus haul-out near Prins Karls Forland. At 81 degrees north latitude, Phippsoya is only 540 nautical miles from the North Pole and because of its proximity to pack ice, offers the potential for great polar bear viewing.
Zodiac landings, kayaking, guided walks and rambles on remote shores round out a program which includes daily lectures from the naturalists and featured guests. The virtually 24 hours of daylight provide unsurpassed opportunities to linger on the observation decks watching the never ending stream of abundant birds and wildlife.
Designed specifically for polar exploration, the M/V Marina Svetaeva is a modern, comfortable, safe, ice-strengthened vessel. The top deck enjoys 360-degreee views around the ship making this a wonderful place to observe the spectacular scenery. The onboard experience includes dedicated Adventure Concierges to help you select from a range of activities, the Active Cruising and Wellness program to ensure you enjoy your excursions to the fullest and special attention is paid to the Active Cruiser menus presented at each meal. Other facilities include the more
presentation room, gift shop, fitness room, wellness centre, sauna and plunge pool.
Our comprehensive program of shipboard lectures and guided activities ashore, combined with a superior onboard experience make this a most enjoyable and stimulating exploration of one of the most spectacular polar regions of the world.
