We've travelled to India for many years and are thrilled to introduce this tour to the South. We begin our exploration in Chennai (Madras) where we will visit the famous temples of Mahabalipuram and Madurai before diving into South India's extensive natural history. We'll visit Periyar National Park, where we will have opportunities to see Indian elephant, gaur, chital, sambar, Nilgir langurs and bonnet macaques. Travelling along the Malabar Coast, we will be introduced to the numerous varieties of spices that thrive here.

A special treat is our peaceful cruise in the Kerala backwaters, a series of brackish lagoons and lakes, dotted with islands lush with coconut and mangrove trees and home to a wide variety of flora and fauna.

We will enjoy the tropical forests of Thattekad Wildlife Sanctuary. Common avian occupants include the Indian roller, cuckoo, jungle nightjar, kite, grey drongo, Malabar trogon, woodpecker and Indian hill myna. Crimson-throated barbet, bee-eater, sun bird, shrike, fairy bluebird, night heron, and Malabar hornbill are some of the rarer birds that may put in an appearance. In addition, the sanctuary houses elephant, leopard, sloth bear and porcupine.

In Mysore we will visit the spectacular Mysore Palace and the Chamundi Hills before we head to Rajiv Gandhi National Park. The former hunting retreat of the Mysore maharajas is a fantastic destination for wildlife, with over 300 species of birds, large elephant and bison populations, and a healthy population of tigers.

South India offers a tantalizing treat for all of the senses. Join Quest as we explore the hills, lakes and jungles of South India.
